Specialist escalator cleaning
Premrest offers specialist escalator cleaning. The work is escalator tread cleaning with a counter-rotating brush machine. Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, and across Australia.
Why treads and comb plates hold grit and gum.
Escalator steps are not a flat floor. Each tread is a grooved metal plate. People walk the same path all day, and the grooves pick up what arrives on shoes: grit, dust, spilled drink, chewing gum. Comb plates sit at the top and bottom of the flight, where the treads disappear under the landing. Debris that is not lifted out is carried into that junction.
A wet mop or a pad used on a flat floor does not reach the bottom of those grooves. Soil stays in the channel. Gum sits in the rib. The tread looks dull even when the landings around it have been cleaned.
Commercial escalator cleaning is specialist work for that reason. It sits alongside other commercial floor cleaning, not in place of the daily clean.
Why grooved treads defeat a standard clean.
Most commercial floor methods assume a continuous surface. A mop, an auto-scrubber or a rotary pad travels across a plane. Escalator treads are a series of channels. The brush or pad rides the high points and skips the valley. Water can sit in the groove and dry as a film. Grit stays packed against the rib.
Gum is worse. Foot traffic presses it in and the metal holds the shape. Scraping from the landing does not reach the full depth of the groove. Solvent on a rag smears it along the rib.
A method that works on vinyl or tile on the same concourse will not clean the flight. Hard floor scrubbing is the right tool for those landings. Escalator treads need a machine that works into the groove.
What a counter-rotating brush does.
Premrest cleans the escalator treads using a counter-rotating brush machine. That machine uses two brushes turning in opposite directions. One brush drives soil one way. The other drives it back. The opposing action works the bristles down into the grooves rather than skating over the ribs.
The same opposing action helps lift gum and packed grit that a single rotating head tends to smear. The machine travels along the tread, so each groove is worked rather than wiped.
After hours, and on a program if you want one.
Escalator cleaning is typically done after hours. That keeps the flight out of the way of daytime traffic. Include access notes with your enquiry so we can plan around the building.
Many customers set up an ongoing program, either quarterly or six-monthly, depending on the site and its traffic volume.
Who typically needs this work.
Shopping centres, transport hubs, office towers and airports all run escalators. Those buildings move a lot of people over grooved treads, so the flights need a specialist clean rather than a mop from the landing.

Premrest offers specialist escalator cleaning. The service is cleaning the escalator treads using a counter-rotating brush machine.
How does a counter-rotating brush clean a tread?
Two brushes turn in opposite directions. One drives soil one way; the other drives it back. The opposing action works the bristles into the grooves rather than skating over the ribs.
Why not mop the treads with the rest of the floor?
Grooved treads are not a flat plane. A mop or pad rides the high points and leaves grit and gum in the channels.
